Desolate focuses on a family of farmers that have been left behind in the wake of a drought. The once thriving farm town has turned into a savage and brutal world, it’s community living on the brink of collapse. I set out to create a story that would capture the raw reality of human struggle and hardship. The family is trapped. confronted with conflict / violence, and are fiercely desperate for change. In this narrative, I strive to shine light on how far the hungry human soul will go, seeking survival; and the lengths they go to create a better life for themselves.

As a director, my focus is to tell stories that also have a tone of realism. I drove through the central valleys of California, once green and lush, I found myself in a land that was unfamiliar. Farms were barren, the roads were dusted over, there was a looming feeling of lost promises. The landscape spoke to me; this desolate world presented itself as a blank canvas, suggesting a story of struggle. Although the land is dead, there is immense beauty in this desolate world and I yearn to capture it. Each of the characters embody distinct and unmistakable traits of brutality, suffrage and malevolence.
